After receiving her master´s degree as a soloist from the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne, with the special Max. Jost prize rewarding brilliant studies, Laurence Guillod was then part of the Theater Basel’s Opera Studio during the season 2010-2011 ; during those years, she performed important roles, such as die Peri (Das Paradies und die Peri, Schumann), Despina (Così fan tutte), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Siébel (Faust, Gounod), Micaela (Carmen, Bizet), Frasquita (Carmen, Bizet), Serpina in la Serva Padrona de Pergolesi, as well as the title role in Il Segreto di Susanna, de Wolf-Ferrari.
She is grant holder from the Colette Mosetti Foundation and is awarded with the Study’s price of the Pourcent culturel Migros. She won in february 2014 the Claudio Abbado and second price in the Umberto Giordano competition in South Italy.
During her Opera Studio’s year, she performed the role of Donna Anna (Motel Giovanni, from Don Giovanni, Mozart), Blumenmädchen (Parsifal, Wagner), Barbarina (le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart). Her performances there were well appreciated and, after her Opera Studio season, she was frequently invited as a guest, to sing the first Nymphe (Rusalka, Dvorák), Barbarina (with a tour in Japan), Dalinda (Ariodante, Haendel).
She made her debut at Lausanne’s opera in 2011 in the role of Wanda (la grande Duchesse de Gerolstein, Offenbach), directed by Omar Porras and conducted by Cyril Diederich, She then performed successfully the role of la Prima Donna (Viva la Mamma, Donizetti) at Fribourg’s and Lausanne’s Operas, Ilia (Idomeneo, Mozart) at the Theater Basel under Andrea Marcon’s direction, Bubikopf (der Kaiser von Atlantis, Ullmann) under Facundo Agudin’s direction and recentely sang Marie de Poncourlay in Les Mousquetaires au Couvent from Louis Varney, staged by Jérôme Deschamps. We recently heard her in the role of Sandra in I duo baroni di Rocc’azzura from Cimarosa with the Geneva’s Chamber Opera.
She sings frequently in concerts and oratorios; she was soloist for Berlioz’s Nuits d’été cycle under Joseph Swenson’s direction, for a gala concert in Linz with the Johann Strauss Ensemble under the direction of Russell Mac Gregor, for the Mozart’s Requiem in the Victoria Hall of Geneva, and for a lot of religious masterpieces such as Bach’s Mass in H minor and Christmas Oratorio, Haendel’s Messiah etc. She recently sang a recital dedicated to the Swiss composer Michel Hostettler, and a recital of her chamber music duo Alban et Achille with music from Debussy, Berg and Strauss.
In the 14-15 season, she’ll make her debut in la Traviata (Verdi) in Argentina with the orchestra Sinfonica Patagonia then in Switzerland with the orchestra Musique des Lumières under the direction of Facundo Agudin, as well as in the role of Adina (l’Elisir d’amore, Donizetti). She’ll also continue her carrier in recital: concerts of the duo Alban et Achille (soprano and piano), concerts “Rises and falls…”, with music from Weill and Poulenc, Mozart Coronation’s Mass, Haendel’s Messiah, St John Passion under the direction of John Nelson.
